Jan Garbareks Twelve Moons (1992) var mitt inträde till den genre man ibland kallar Nordisk Jazz. Helt otroligt album där Gabareks sopransax blir till en trollflöjt som manar fram de nordiska skogstrollen: avantgarde-jazzens svar på Edvard Grieg och narrativ som om den vore skapad för att spelas till Ibsens pjäs Per Gynt.

Jag blir helt salig av musiken på det här albumet. Man kan riktigt höra ökenvindarna dra igenom musiken. Det är också intressant att läsa om bandet och relatera deras erfarenheter till den västerländska utveckling med mediala, sociala talang-jakter. Det borde bli brist på låtskrivare förr eller senare med alla dessa talanger som dyker upp ur de musikaliska bakmaskinerna. Jag ser inte fram mot en framtid där alla låtskrivare är proffs som sitter och producerar låtar dagarna i ända - typ de i melodifestivalen - och alla som framför låtarna är nykläckta från talang-tv med en medelålder på 17 år.

Why Spotify
I have a habit of listening to podcast and other talk-things on my ipod, rarely music. I almost always listen to music on or through a computer. I am not a collector. I try to avoid illegal file sharing as much as possible. Always paying when there is someone to send my money to - that’s not always possible I’m sorry to say… The world of culture is in a state of general confusion towards the digital world. But it’s starting to change. Spotify is only one of the many starting points for a new era in the commercial Internet. Perhaps Spotify is not enough for hip hackers in the file sharing world, but for me it is perfect.I don’t want to own music, I want to listen to it, explore new songs and artists. Spotify is not the perfect music service yet, but the “machine” works perfect. On my 24 Mbit/sek ADSL connection I rarely notice any difference to playing music locally in ITunes.
For me, Spotify is not an application in the long row of applications I have explored since I boght my first PC 1984. Spotify is the first time I can spot the future in a music application / service.
